Connecting people made easy and simple with Bayan DSL
Almost everyone in the technology loop knows that Facebook is just about the coolest social networking site because of its hip and fun applications such as Superpoke and Virtual Gifts.
But have you wondered how fun it would be if someone as tech-outdated as your good ol' Grandma can be part of this internet craze? Well, if only everyone could learn how to use the internet, then sending your love your friends and family will be much more fun and faster.
More specifically for the elderly, statistics suggests that once these seniors go online, they can be just as enthusiastic as younger users. In fact, because of these wired seniors, there had been sharp growth in doing key Internet activities such as health searches, e-shopping and online banking.
"Sadly, based on our research, we found that only 11% of our elderly know how to use the Internet," says John Rojo, Vice President for Corporate Brand and Communications. "Our Lolos and Lolas are being isolated by the same people they love—their children and grandchildren."
Mr. Rojo furthers that isolating them in this Internet-driven age is tantamount to taking away their right to have a voice, even if they are not as hip and groovy as they were before. This inspired Bayan to create a TV persona such as Lola Techie whom people can also interact with online—a first in Philippine commercial viewing.
From Good 'Ol Grandma to One Techie Lola
Bayan Telecommunications' (Bayan) introduced an internet-savvy character, Lola Techie, in their latest TV commercial that's now been airing nationwide.
And even though one would think that the World Wide Web may just bore Grandma out of her wits, Lola techie proves in this TVC that once seniors go online, they are just as enthusiastic as younger users. In fact, powered by Bayan DSL, Lola Techie established her online presence by being right there in your favorite social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Plurk.
Apart from seeing her Superpoke her grandson JR in the TVC, Lola Techie is also a real-life character that you can talk to because after adding her as friend, you can view her posts and comment on them. The best thing about it, Lola Techie replies to your messages. That's not all, Lola Techie is surely in the loop when it comes to sending instant messages and uploading videos in YouTube.
Thanks to Bayan's efficient DSL network, Lola Techie is among the 90, 000 subscribers who rely on its fast service. This cool lola especially needs a dependable network set-up as she not only talks to you through her posts in her social networks, but is also very active in updating her website, www.lolatechie.com.
But apart from the coolness factor, Lola Techie also seeks to inspire other people, be it fellow seniors or the younger ones, to find the right internet connectivity for them so they can begin enjoying the perks of Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. For Lola Techie, Bayan DSL 899 is the preferred package because of its quick subscription and installation process that before she knows it, she can already Superpoke her grandson JR.
Rising Above Expectations
But previous to this TVC, Bayan has been steadily growing its subscriber base from the past year. Their double-digit growth is a result of the reliable and efficient service that the company has been giving its customers. In fact, 8 out of 10 Bayan customers that were tracked from their comprehensive nationwide customer satisfaction survey have had very positive experience in their service. Also, the independently conducted study showed 50% of them have expressed loyalty to Bayan as a brand, despite the aggressive acquisition schemes of competitors.
For the first two months of 2009, Bayan is continuing its growth trajectory with a 3% revenue increase and 26% EBITDA growth versus the same period in 2008. Net subscribers continue to grow across all products such as DSL and wireless landlines, plus a marked decrease in churn across all products and services.
"Bayan has shown that it is able to compete effectively in the aggressive telecommunications industry, and in this uncertain economy, by giving its customers more value for their money through superior service and simplified products," said Chief Executive Consultant Tunde Fafunwa. "In an industry dominated by prepaid services, our subscriber base is primarily postpaid which gives us a much higher ARPU than industry standards and proves that our subscribers choose to commit to us."
He adds, "Our growth shows that our strategic move to offer unlimited talking through the Bayan Wireless Landline, while maintaining our advantage in fixed voice and data services, is starting to pay off."
Revenue growth was driven by an 11% gain in voice services, to P3.8 Billion over P3.3 Billion the previous year, with a marked increase of 123% for Bayan Wireless Landline.
Data and Internet business gained 18% over the previous year, at P2.4 Billion compared to 2007's P2.05 Billion. Internet revenues, including Bayan DSL, continued its record upswing, posting P1.4 Billion, thus gaining 36% higher than the previous year's record of P1.0 Billion.
The growth of Bayan Wireless Landline and BayanDSL drove Bayan's revenue to grow 15% versus industry growth of 4%.
Bayan DSL Brings Lola Techie
And now with the integration of Lola Techie TVC that communicates the new unlimited Php 899 Bayan DSL package, Bayan expects to further elevate their subscriber base. "She's now everybody's favorite TV lola not only because of her cool, hip and very witty personality but also because she knows where to get the most competitive unlimited internet package," says Jojo De Jesus, Vice President for Marketing.
Now, with this new campaign by Bayan, more and more people across all ages should want to get wired. Bayan wishes to be the catalyst so that Filipinos may begin to close the gap between people who are able to use the technology and those who are not. Truly committed to letting the Filipino voice be heard—whether they are young or old like Lola Techie, Bayan provides ways such as the Bayan DSL Bundle P899 and other great DSL packages to choose from to make the Internet a truly the wide-reaching prospect—one that's broad enough to see beyond one's age.
