Why is my Transfer rate only 15 KB/s to 50 KB/s? Today a technician came to my apartment and replaced the modem. Upon replacing the modem, my transfer rate went back to normal as it was when I first installed Bayan DSL which was around the 150 KB/s range. BUT, tonight my transfer rate reverted back to 17 Kb/s - 30 KB/s! (and YES, I WAS and AM downloading from the same sites that I have always downloaded from - I tested them all). So we can rule out the fact that the problems lies in my computer. We can only conclude that the problem is on Bayantel's end. Before at 150 KB/s i was downloading movies in approximately one hour to an hour and a half. Now, it takes more than 9 hours for me to attempt to download a 700mb file! And I say attempt because I simply cannot finish the download without the internet connection being disconnected! Which means I am now able to download anything I want. I made a video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZO7hOt2Mug

kingofpop86, checked the links you provided. The articles you are citing in the above mentioned thread dates back to 2007 and 2006. I don't see the relevance considering technology has changed since then. The only similarity though that I see is that it is about speed and complains about BayanDSL. But that was years ago.
I saw the video already. Other than seeing that the download rate via your SpeedBit Download Accelerator is just between 17Kb to 31Kb, there is no other information that would be useful other than some observations. It is a good proof though that you have a problem with your connection. Are you using a direct modem to PC connection? Or do you have router? If you have a router are you even using a wireless connection? What speed are you getting when you do a speed test at www.speedtest.net with Quezon City as the test server?
Just an observation, your PC has a lot of programs open... I would not wonder if some of them also do eat bandwidth in the background.
Further, since it is already speed on demand time (10PM - 10PM) have you tried reconnecting by around 10PM to refresh your connection (this entails that you should have attach sod to your Bayan username either in your dialer or router, sample: Mikos@sod).
Furthermore, you mentioned about the connection getting cut thus, not completing the download (typo error probably on your part). If the internet gets disconnected, chances are you will experiences problems with the speed. Did you notice what happens to your DSL light when you get disconnected?
I hope you don't mind my asking. Those information were in the sticky I made. Thank you.

I'm not using a router. Maybe I need to clarify my dilemma here. On speedtest.net, it shows an accurate download speed which is the 1.2 mbps that I am subscribed to. But when it comes down to actually downloading a file from all the usual sites I download from, my transfer rate is only in the range of 17 KB/s to 50 KB/s. Which is poor considering just this morning after technician replaced my modem, my transfer rate was 150 KB/s (like it was when I first installed my DSL).
Even after reconnecting after 10pm using speed on demand, the transfer rate is between 30 KB/s to 50 KB/s.
Ps Those transfer rates are from a download accelerator program. If I were to NOT use any kind of download accelerator, the transfer rates are even SLOOOOOOOOWER. Feeling ko, parang naglalagay ang Bayantel ng bandwidth limit for my downloads. Alam ko pwede gawin yun, pero I'll never have a way of proving it.

You mentioned about getting disconnected from the internet, hence the download is not completed. Do you still experience the disconnection problem?
As for downloading, is this the same even with the use of Bayan's proxy?
Although the use of Bayan's proxy server is not a solution, rather just a fix, it does help on occasions.

I do not know how to use Bayan's proxy. I have no knowledge of that. But how can you say that I am getting the correct speed when I was getting a transfer rate of 150 KB/s just this morning after the modem was replaced. And I had a transfer rate of 150 KB/s consistently for the first couple months when I had DSL installed . It's just for the past three weeks or so that I have been experiencing severely slow transfer rates. It's like I'm downloading a file using a dial up modem.

Your connection basically has two parts married together.
The speed you get at www.speedtest.net is your transfer rate or the capacity of your connection. Thus, I said you are getting the correct speed.
The other half of the equation is latency. Latency is the amount of time it takes a packet from your PC to a particular website and back. Usually measured in ms. This can be affected by so many things either in your PC, in the network you are subscribed to, and even along the way to the website you are connecting to. Thus, you will observe that there are occasions that some websites load faster, while some don't. This is the other part of the connection that most subscribers are not aware of.
In downloading a file, both your transfer rate and your latency are all the more at work. If your latency towards a site is lower, your actual download rates should be higher. If your latency is higher, your download rate will also go lower. This is one way to look at it. Thus, you also will experience that you can download faster in some sites. Although there more factors affecting one's download rates. This is just one of them.
You may have the correct speed (or transfer rate), but not necessarily download that fast. Most ISPs (if not all) will just provide you the transfer rate and make sure that stays more or less stable since it is the what they can guarantee. The latency part though is a different matter as this changes from one application to another, from one website to another.
I hope this sort of explains in a very basic way what goes on with our connections. This is by the way, regardless of which ISP you belong to. This is how the internet works.
Using a proxy may help bridge your PC and the server you are downloading from. Hence, I stated earlier it is just a fix and not something to be relied on.
We have a DIY on this: Do It YourSelf Troubleshooting Series: Stuff You Can Do With Your PC. I made one for browsers. Other programs like your Anti Virus, your download managers, do allow the use of proxies for their connections. You just need to check how to enter it. It is pretty similar to how you do it with browsers.
