oisilener1982 wrote:normal na ngayon...full speed na Possible patch. Most companies that maintain cables like these always have a back up plan while the segment is being repaired as these will greatly affect the region, like what happened way back in Dec. 2006. The internet service was restored in the region after 2 days but the repairs took until January 2007 to be done. Let us just be happy that things are moving faster now compared to the onset of the defaulted segment.

Although my speeds are near pre APCN2 problem speeds, my ping stats are still a little higher compared to my pre-APCN2 disaster pings. Hopefully, di na magtatagal yan. I know that maayos din yan. Almost normal na nga yung surfing eh.

UPDATE to the APCN2 Cable:
PLDT Slowdown? August 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment · News
If your Internet seems slow….its due to the Asia Pacific Cable Network fiber cut! . Initially, the report was that only 2 segments were affected. Actually 8 segments were affected by the Typhoon Here is the update for today from PLDT:
As of today, eight (8) cable systems have already been affected by the problem in the Taiwan waters. 4 out of these 8 systems are being utilized by PLDT for our voice, data and internet services.
The cable owners are now busy restoring the services via other cable systems that are not affected by this Taiwan problem. Cable repair operations have also commenced to immediately put these cable systems back into operation. The updates on the estimated cable repair completion are as shown in the table below.
Cable Segment No. of Cable Faults Repair Cableship Estimated Repair Completion Date 1 SMW3 Taiwan branch Cable Retriever 9-Sep 2 APCN2 Sng – Mal C/S Asean Restorer August 14 afternoon 3 APCN Hk – Taiwan C/S Asean Explorer 30-Sep 4 EAC Hk – Twn BU1 No info yet wk of Aug 17 5 C2C no detailed information FLAG 6 no detailed information 7 FEA no detailed information 8 NACS no detailed information
While waiting for the repair completion, we have and are restoring some of our services via other cable facilities. We will be releasing further updates as soon as we receive new information.
This is from the online article posted at: BNSHOSTING.NET. In fairness to PLDT, it is not only them who are affected. The article also posted as to when the repair of those segments will be completed.
My thoughts:
Other ISPs have also resorted to their back up systems. In fairness to BayanDSL, I found the use of the proxy server very timely. I was up on the net even during the ACPN2 problem simply because Bayan's proxy server helped in accessing websites that are not accessible to many (including friends who are in other networks). Although it was not that fast, but hey.... The Region is affected and in times like this, any internet is better than no internet at all. Although right now, speeds in surfing the web seems to have returned to almost normal levels and I have stopped using the proxy already. Although I don't expect normal operations as the segments have not been repaired completely, and also due to the fact that many of our connections are re-routed, at least now though it is almost near normal levels.

getside10 wrote:pde ko ba ilagay un website d2 ?? I edited your post as promised. It is ok. Torrent site lang naman. Wala naman specific content na dina download, just the site.
The server you are downloading from is from the Netherlands, particularly, Amsterdam. The IP Address of that website or server is: 87.233.147.140, with the following IP details:
Country: Netherlands State/Region: 07 City: Amsterdam Latitude: 52.35 Longitude: 4.9167
Hostname: www.mininova.org ISP: TrueServer BV Organization: Range assigned to XS Networks BV
That is outside of the Asia Pacific Region. Kaya di ako magtataka kung medyo mataas ang ping results mo diyan. I tried pinging the site, and I get 300+ to 400 ms in ping. Sorry dude, pero mukang walang magagawa ang mga ISPs natin diyan ngayon due to what happened sa APCN2 cable. I hope this helps. God bless.

Halos lahat naman eh. Hehehe... Pero so far near pre-APCN2 cable problem na yung speeds at access. I just don't know with downloading files pero I am sure me problem din dun because of the cables. Most of the social networking sites are hosted outside of APac kaya di ako magtataka. Even now, erratic ang Facebook. Amph!!!!

Hindi pala masyadong affected ang bayantel: Telcos scramble to restore services POINTING to cable breaks last Wednesday due to bad weather, major telecommunication firms reported disruptions in Internet and international voice services yesterday, saying the business operations of a number of corporate subscribers were affected. Multiple cable faults occurred on Wednesday between China and Taiwan, and Malaysia and Singapore, which is within the Asia-Pacific Cable Network (APCN) 2 and SMW3 network. Edwin A. Domingo, marketing and business development head of Eastern Telecommunications Philippines, Inc., said the company received more than 200 calls complaining of difficulties in securing Internet connections. Eastern Telecommunications serves more than 18,000 corporate clients and 7,000 households. Mr. Domingo said the company had to choose which customers would be given the limited bandwidth available while rerouting signals and fixing cables. “We need to prioritize our bandwidth to the key consumers — those that provide jobs and income such as banks and BPO (business process outsourcing) firms,” he explained. Mr. Domingo said households and small businesses would have to wait while area-by-area rerouting is being completed. Rerouting may take days or a week while fixing cables may take months. The said incident has significant financial implications to the company due to the cost of rerouting signals, he said. “We have to bear the financial impact because we cannot increase the price. We are still estimating the effect,” Mr. Domingo said. Bayan Telecommunications, Inc. said the cable breaks only affected a portion of the telco’s connections to the US. “Bayan’s existing links have enough bandwidth to continue to provide for our customer requirements at this time,” the company said. The country’s second-largest telecommunication firm said the incident also resulted in the partial disruption of its Internet service and some international circuits, but added that it has been progressively transferring traffic from APCN2 to other cable systems. “Full restoration of Globe’s Internet service is expected today, and our affected business circuits are already being rerouted,” Globe Telecoms, Inc. said. In a report yesterday, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Co. said cable breaks have crippled mobile unit Smart Communications, Inc.’s international and broadband services. It assured its subscribers that “the PLDT Group is now re-routing traffic to other cable systems and coordinating with partners in affected international cable systems to restore full capacity as soon as possible.” In Taipei, a telco executive said up to 90% of all voice call and Internet services from parts of East Asia that were disrupted were to resume yesterday. The cost of repairing cables will be shared among various telcos, and Chunghwa Telecom’s share of the costs should not exceed T$3 million ($91,240), the official said. — Jeremiah F. de Guzman and Reuters

Apparently Philippines connection is kinda normalish but not quite 100% as of yet and the cables are still undergoing repairs. Sounds like restoration is now being covered for small businesses, unlike a few days ago only corporate and large businesses were prioritized. Don't get exited people. Residential subscribers will suffer a while longer, due to other segments of the undersea cable being damaged
