I have seen people use extended antennas. Meaning me cable from the router to the antennas located outside or placed in a different location. You can also do that if you like. Pero mas maganda sana kung talagang router external antenna yung binili mo or yung antenna is around 9dbi yung capacity. You can also do with what you have. Oks din yan. I might just do that with my Linksys also since nasa 2nd floor yung main PC ko and its wireless. Para full bars na ako sa signal instead of the situation now na fluctuating siya between 5 and 4 out of 5 bars. Nakakabagal kasi yun specially when you upload files since hindi steady yung signal strength niya.

It doesn't really matter how long the coax cable is since the cable itself does act also as a part of the antenna. There were come wireless cards released by MSI before that had a design like that. The antenna was not attached to the PCI card but rather had a stand similar to an outdoor external antenna. They just discontinued it since it was not popular. I think it will work. I have seen set up like that and it does work. Maganda sana if you firmware can support it also like changing which antenna is for transmit and receive, or even manipulating the transmission power. I am not particularly sure though if there are 3rd party firmwares for DLink.

Me mga Linksys routers na mas affordable kesa DLink. I saw a Linksys router dati sa Gilmore around 1-1500 lang sya. I am just using WRT54G version 2.2 (dinosaur na nga ito kung tutuusin... Hehehehe)... I changed the stock firmware to Tomato. So far so good. Almost 6 months na siya running on Tomato.

In fact yung nakita kong DLink (DIR series) namamahalan pa ako...

Internal antennas na kasi ang gamit nila which is more efficient. And most Linksys routers with internal antennas has 3 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) dedicated antennas, unlike those with external antennas. 2 is used for transmission, 1 is used at receiving. Also, the new technologies employed with the new routers allows the router to bounce of the signals off surfaces or other router signals (provided they are not of the same frequency) hence the signal thoroughput is higher compared to conventional antennas. This is the reason why router positioning can be maximized as compared to other router models they have produced.

Kaya nakaka full bars ka pa din kahit sa 2nd floor.

Possible din na hindi designed na pang external yung nabili mo. Wala naman kasi sa cable length yun. Yung na mention mo na antenna, is more of an indoor type eh. Ano ba yung target range of transmission mo? Gano kalayo?

Hi, Just want to add more about the info.

Improvise an outdoor enclosure then put the router there and clamp it to your base antenna, 1-4 meter away is better from the antenna. I suggest you improvised one so u can design your own Lxwxh.

As of now if your tight in budget use your indoor antenna for testing then but if you have budget i recommend the outdoor type. Why? there's so many reason.

Well as of now ito na muna try it and lets see what will happen. Enjoy !

Speak to the hand

let me share my part hehhe. i just bougt an asus wl520gu and an omni directional antenna 8 dbi from raon.

and heres the nightmare......... that 8 dbi antenna is very weak compared sa free antenna ng asus ko kaya ibinalik ko sa kanila and for refund... so naibalik na...

then just today, i bought the same antenna though the brand ng binili ko naman is edimax from gilmore na worth 3.2k (yung sa raon 1.5k lang)

and using 3 meter cable to get it to our roof and all i can say is wow!!!!

believe it or not, the signal before i connect the antenna was 21 % from my repeater to my AP

and after installing the antenna it became 61 % wow.

just a simple tip, with regards sa network items (AP/Repeaters/Antenna) mga may kinalaman sa wifi, wag mag pasilaw sa mura ang halaga if you really want a high gain. un ang una kong naging problem biruin mo 8 dbi outdoor omni antenna sa wireless link sa raon mas malakas pa ang 5 dbi na free antenna ng asus ko !!!!!

pero ung 8dbi antenna ng edimax worth 3.2k , the improvement was fantastic.

mas maikling cable mas maganda to avoid loss. meron din namang mga low loss cable or the 0 loss cable pero may kamahalan sa edimax ung cable nila na maganda mahal p sa antenna 6 meters worth 3.6k pero ang masasabi ko lang.... Sulit
