Switch and on a residential line? One of your PCs must act as the NAT and the server. Otherwise, both PCs cannot surf the web at the same time.

Switches are not as intelligent as routers. Walang load balancing features ang switcheds. They only know how to direct data where it came from and who requested it. Other than that, wala na itong ginagawa. So to answer your question, yes it will divide the connection.

As Mod Khupalkah pointed out, the beauty of routers, they know how to balance the load in relation to the demand of the PCs and the available bandwidth.

This is because when you check the speed, the site where you measure the speed test only detects one IP address, this is your internet IP address. Thus it is just like one PC doing the speed test. Pero try mo that one PC is doing online games on a peak time, with the other PC doing video streaming, then try doing speed test on either PCs and you will see the speed drop. It is not a problem on the line but simply the bandwidth being divided by the different applications running and the router doing its load balance.
